Artists Elinor Brass and Emily Orley
Our work explores the history of specific sites in and around London. We see walls as archives, with a memory of their own, so that empty rooms are never empty. By thoroughly researching the buildings we decide to use and their surrounding areas, and then working with carefully composed installations and photography, we bring these places to life by tapping into the memory contained within their very fabric. We aim to compel the viewer to recognise the beauty of everyday objects and their textures and settings, and to scrutinise the familiar until what is real can be questioned and reconsidered. The positioning of the objects we use, as well the absence of people emphasise implied activities and narratives.
